The Festival That Defines Key West
Fantasy Fest is Key West’s legendary 10-day party in paradise — a celebration of creativity, community, and pure island magic. What began in 1979 as a small local parade to brighten up the quiet season has evolved into an internationally known event that brings together artists, adventurers, and free spirits from around the world.
Every October, Old Town transforms into a living art gallery of costumes, parades, music, and laughter. Imagination runs wild, creativity takes center stage, and the energy that fills the island can only be described as electric.
Now over four decades strong, Fantasy Fest isn’t just an event — it’s a mindset. It’s about embracing who you are, celebrating others for doing the same, and remembering that life’s better when you let your true self shine.

A Place for Everyone
Despite its reputation as an adult celebration, Fantasy Fest truly offers something for everyone. The festival features more than 60 events throughout the week — and many of them are family-friendly.

π Adults-Only Escapes
For those seeking the more “grown-up” side of Key West’s imagination, there’s no shortage of options. Costume balls, pool parties, live shows, and themed events like the Headdress Ball, Sloppy Joe’s Toga Party, and Kinky Carnival all invite guests to embrace their playful, fearless side.
A Celebration of Expression
What makes Fantasy Fest so special isn’t just the glitter, the parades, or the costumes — it’s the freedom it gives people to simply be themselves.
In a world where judgment can be loud and authenticity often quieted, Fantasy Fest flips the script. It’s a safe space for creativity and individuality, where everyone is encouraged to “come out of their shell.”
For some, this is the one time of year they can truly express who they’ve always wanted to be — whether that means dressing in full body paint, donning a superhero cape, or dancing barefoot under the lights of Duval Street.
Fantasy Fest isn’t about fitting in; it’s about celebrating what makes each of us different.
Making It What You Want It to Be
Fantasy Fest isn’t for everyone — and that’s perfectly fine. Like any great event, it’s what you make of it.
It can be wild.
It can be artistic.
It can be family-friendly.
It can be romantic.
It can be whatever you want it to be.
The beauty of Fantasy Fest is that it changes with you. The events you choose, the friends you bring, and the spirit you bring to the streets all shape your experience. Whether you’re walking in the parade, exploring Goombay, or watching from the sidelines with a drink in hand — you’re part of the story.
Beyond the Party
Fantasy Fest also gives back. Many of the festival’s biggest events are fundraisers that support local non-profits, including the Florida Keys SPCA through the annual King and Queen campaign, which has raised more than $5 million over the years.
This year there are 4 amazing candidates with the biggest pet hearts:

So while you’re enjoying the fun, you’re also helping strengthen the very community that makes Key West so special.
